This reminds me of the Telegraph-- when they found that it didn't solve all their problems, they ended up blaming the technology.
In this case, the 'interconnectedness' of the internet has also made it easier to find partners for casual sex-- perhaps there was an explosion of Syphilis in those cities, but we should compare the rates prior to facebook-- if they were already higher, then facebook might expedite the process, but I don't think it's solely responsible for it.
