So my group is doing a study on how Myspace seems to have dropped in its popularity compared to Facebook and a topic I came across was how the Fox hit television show Glee is throwing a contest to have a spot on the show through Myspace. I thought it was interesting how Glee decided to use Myspace as their form of contest entries and advertisement. Then I found out that Fox actually bought Myspace a while back then I thought the idea was genius! I originally thought it was pointless for them to use Myspace because of how it has declined in popularity. In fact, it is a clever marketing ploy on their part. Not only does the popularity of the show make people who want to be on it make their videos and post on the site, it has their friends who have Myspace accounts vote for them by logging on to Myspace and give them "Gold Stars." To my understanding, only people with Myspace accounts are allowed to vote. I may be wrong though. But if that is the case, then it is a way to bring in or back people who have strayed away from their accounts (myself included) to vote for their friends and possibly become active again. Very sneaky Fox, well done.
