OMGPOP use to be known as I’M IN LIKE WITH YOU. It is an online site where people can come together to play arcade games. People who do not have an account with the site can play in the games and they would be labeled “lameguest.” Anyone is able to join in the fun. There was also a chat window so you would be able to converse with everyone that you were playing that game with and you had the ability to leave whenever you chose. OMGPOP is like a social network based around its games. Overtime, there have been some changes, not only in regards to the name of the site, but also the layout and content.
Here is a picture of what it use to look like: http://www.webdevtwopointzero.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/iminlikewithyou.jpg
In this image, there are minor changes in the bottom right of the page that includes features like “blog”: http://26.media.tumblr.com/jNqfzoqYfhtacpk64eawelBso1_500.png
In this first image of this article, http://www.blog.ellenlundgren.com/2009/08/omg-pop/, there are even more changes like the option of chat rooms outside of the game. The page even looks more advanced with the menu bar on top of the page with tabs like “me” (which is your own profile), “friends,” etc. and not just the games. OMGPOP also has similar features to facebook. There is a homepage on your profile that allows you to write on your wall and to write on other people’s walls. There is also a private message system similar to facebook. It also now has a chat function where you can create a chat box with another friend on OMGPOP which is able to move around the page, whereas facebook’s is just as the bottom of the page. An interesting dynamic that has been added to OMGPOP is its coin system where people can earn coins and gamble and bet them away in games. With all of these functions, OMGPOP has moved from just a gaming site to also a social networking site that allows you to connect with your friends than only just interacting when meeting when playing the same game. Over the course of one year, OMGPOP had adjusted its site to the public and what is popular; social networking seems to be the main “it” scene of the internet and OMGPOP is jumping on the bandwagon.
