Doing It

Last night while I was procrastinating writing my individual paper, my brother had the TV on and ironically, a commercial for Xbox’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 came on, which is what my group did our paper on. The link is:

It shows an older man, kind of a grandpa figure, sitting in his comfy chair in his home talking about “doing it.” He never mentions the game at all, making the viewers think he is talking about sex instead of a video game. Some of the funny lines he says are as follows:

- “guys are doing it with girls and girls are doing it with other girls”
- “some are doing it online with complete strangers”
- “some like deeper penetration when doing it”
- “some people have steady aim and others just spray everywhere”
- “over 20 million people are doing it so its safe to say everyone is doing it”

I thought it was very clever how there was a play on words. But what my research has found doesn’t necessarily coincide with what this commercial is saying. The man in the commercial says that girls are doing it with other girls, but my group found that that was untrue. Every gamer that we came in contact with was male. Another statement that I found to be wrong was that some people are doing it online with complete strangers. Although this may be somewhat true, most gamers play online with their friends, not strangers. I loved this commercial and I think that Xbox did a great job trying to attract a wider audience.
