kids are more likely to own a cell phone

My little brother, who is 14, just got a cell phone. My mom asked me my opinion on it since I didn’t get a cell phone until I was almost 18. I told her it was unnecessary but ultimately it was up to her. I decided to research it and I stumbled across this article below. Sadly, the title says it all. From this article’s survey, kids are more likely to own a cell phone than a book. How and why kids need a cell phone at all is beyond me. Do they need to call their friend across the playground in case there is an emergency? Or maybe call their school friends when they are at home? It’s not like homes have telephones these days. Articles like these really make me worry about future generations. I know in my childhood, we had video games and what not that “fried” your brain, but at least we were stuck at home and eventually got bored and read a book. Now, kids can go online and play xbox live and use their cell phones to text, chat, play games, browse the internet, etc. Kids these days…. (sadly, I always thought only old people used this phrase….)
