The Iphone 4 as unveiled a few days ago, with the new function of video-calling. Skype, probably one of the, if not the most popular video-chatting programs wants to work with Apple on FaceTime video calling technology. If successful, Iphone 4 will be able to videochat with Skype-enabled computers-- not just other Iphone 4's.
Part of the reason why I found this bit of news interesting (and amazing) was because technology is advancing and improving in ways that I never really thought it would. This is due in part to how different companies combine forces to make one "super product" that trumps everyone else, for the time being. Many other companies also feed off each other; for example Facebook (and Twitter, too) is integrated into many normal websites, such as Sephora.Com and recently Yahoo.com. The integrated accounts means that a status notification update will show up if, for example, you adjust your fantasy baseball team's roster. Flickr has also combined with Facebook to push their photoupdates onto NewsFeed. And the "like" button has seemingly popped up everywhere on major websites!
People are already very interconnected by technology and the Internet, but it seems to be a trend for companies to join with other companies to boost their revenues/sales/hit count. The current trend, is to join with Facebook. It seems like a good thing, but it also makes me wary. There are so many privacy issues with Facebook already, and if they integrate with all these other websites, they pretty much can follow your every move on the Internet. And that's just a little scary to think about.
