Facebook Photo Experiment
So, as all of our group projects come to an end, what was done by 5-6 college aged students is now being accomplished by 17 year old Nina Jones. Jones is a finalist in BBC Radio 4's So You Want To Be a Scientist competition. Her experiment- looking at the psychology behind the photos people choose as their facebook profile picture. She, with I'm assuming funding from BBC as well as assistance from Oxford professor Dr. Bernie Hogan, will be looking into how people present themselves to the online world. I think that this is actually fairly outstanding, considering one of the first articles we read covered the idea that social networking sites like facebook are not necessarily a representation of our true selves, but how we would like to be percieved by the outside world.
In all fairness, I think we should participate in her experiment. Here is her FB page to the program. "Like" the page, and hopefully she'll select you as part of her experiment!
Kudos to Nina!
