Revolutionizing Communication.

Yesterday at the WWDC, iPhone 4 was announced. Since the first iPhone, the most highly anticipated feature was added and introduced, and this is the forward facing camera. This allows people to not only communicate via voice communications but also visually (albeit limited to wifi network at the moment). With the ever expanding ubiquity of publically accessible wifi networks, this feature revolutionizes mobile communications. Technology is continually bring people closer and closer together- the internet with social networking and instant messaging are only two of the various ways that people can communicate with each other easily without having to be face to face. This can help long distance relationships communicate without feeling as overwhelmed from physical distance. There are also other benefits to having the forward facing camera available on mobile phones, and this is emphasized in a promotional video of the iPhone I have posted below:

This promotional video shows the iPhone being used by a variety of people, including a couple that has a hearing disability. The video shows the forward facing camera as a way for them to use their phones and communicate without having to speak verbally- they are able to use the iPhone to communicate with each other via sign language. This capability revolutionizes the way that people can communicate with each other by adding the visual aspect that brings people even closer together, because people are able to see and hear each other. It also revolutionizes communication by opening up the use of mobile phones to a population of people that normally would not be able to use them.
